New Shoe in Two: Cloud Venture Peak

The Cloudventure Peak is a top-notch trail shoe from On, a brand that you might not initially associate with trail running. And while this isn’t necessarily a “new “shoe, it IS new to Runner’s Alley for 2018.

9.2 oz (M8.5) / 7.4 oz (W7) / 6mm Heel-Toe Drop

Billed as a “Swiss-army-knife for your feet”, the Cloudventure Peak is a light and fast adventure option that excels on a variety of terrain.

That’s because the outsole on the Peak is equipped with four different traction patterns. This 4-level grip profile includes:

1. Forward and reverse chevrons

2. Diamond-shaped studs

3. Sticky-rubber grid

4. CloudTec- unique teeth on the inside of each Cloud element that are designed to bite into corresponding grooves on the midsole providing a stable platform for take-off.

Equally as high-tech, the upper on the Cloudventure Peak is constructed from incredibly lightweight ripstop nylon. The addition of invisible taped reinforcements helps secure the foot and dial in fit for a “barely-there” feel.

The Cloudventure Peak is the trail shoe that I put the most miles on in 2017. I love this shoe, and, for me, one of the biggest standouts is the ripstop upper. It has a feel like no other, almost like taking a parachute and stretching it really, really taut over your foot. I’ve snagged it on roots, rocks, low branches, etc., and every time it snaps right back into place with no signs of wear or tear. The other standout is how flexible, yet responsive the midsole is. Because of the segmented outsole, the Cloudventure Peak flexes and moves with your foot giving you a natural sensation of connection to the trail.

In short, the Cloudventure Peak is one quick and nimble shoe that’s definitely worth trying out.
